The future for extreme-sport fans is right at hand: Space dives from an altitude of about 40 to 60 kilometers above earth’s surface will soon be possible. Joe Kittinger, the first man who ever jumped from space (1960) used a balloon to reach the altitude of 20 km. In the future, jumpers will be carried by a special rocket-vehicle and they will wear an improved suit, which provides atmospheric pressure and flexibility as well as a heat-shield against the air friction.
